The Pacific Coast

Less than a 45 minute's drive from Vintners Inn lies the Pacific Ocean, and some of the most sceniccoast.jpg (19312 bytes) and dramatic coastline in the world. With cliffs hugging the rugged surf, waves crashing against towering rock formations and abundant wildlife, the Sonoma Coast provides endless hours of hiking and opportunities for relaxation.

From Bodega Bay (home to Alfred Hitchcock's classic, The Birds) to Mendocino, the coastline is filled with charming towns and interesting places to spend time. The weather is often cooler at the coast, and sometimes quite windy and fog-bound; taking a jacket or sweater, even in mid-summer, is a good idea. Our concierge can provide you with maps and information about places to see on a trip to the coast.

Recreational Activities

redwoods.jpg (20887 bytes)You can paddle a canoe down the Russian River, pausing to picnic on its sunny sand-bars and beaches, or float above it all at dawn in a hot air balloon, enjoying breathtaking vistas of the valley clad in early morning fog. Many first time visitors have called our majestic, primordial forests filled with Sonoma County Redwoods "nature's cathedrals." For the active sports enthusiast, there are tennis courts and swimming pools, golf courses and gyms, hiking trails and rivers for swimming or canoeing.

Many county and state parks are within easy driving distance, and provide opportunities for hiking, biking, horseback riding and picnic areas. Regardless of the activities you choose, our concierge will provide maps, directions, and driving times for your convenience.

Area Wineries

awards.jpg (22444 bytes)Sonoma County is one of the premier wine making regions of the world, and Vintners Inn is ideally situated to take advantage of all it has to offer.  We're located at the foot of the Russian River Wine Region, in the heart of Sonoma County, with easy access to the Russian River, Dry Creek, Alexander and Sonoma Valleys. Calistoga and the Napa Valley are just over the hill, only thirty minutes away. Many internationally acclaimed wineries are just a short drive from the Inn, with literally hundreds more within an hours drive.

Each winery differs somewhat in its approach to winemaking: the tasting rooms and tours will give you the opportunity to learn about each winery and its particular philosophy. Many wineries have beautiful gardens (we particularly recommend Ferrari-Carano), and are worth seeing for that reason alone. Most wineries have tasting rooms open to the public, usually from 10:30am to 4:30pm, but some require advanced reservations. Our staff will be happy to provide maps and information about the region, or answer any questions you may have.

Cultural Events in the Area

Just across the way from Vintners Inn sits the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts, Sonoma County's premier venue for the performing arts. Here you'll find concerts, theater, symphony, ballet and special cultural events. Our location provides quick and easy access to the Center's facilities.

Our concierge can assist you in finding out about upcoming events and making reservations should you desire them. If you are planning a visit, please call us and we can tell you about events that will be happening during your visit.

Area Shopping

Our location is only a short drive's distance to the area's fine shopping. The city of Santa Rosa features many high quality retailers, such as Macy's and other fine department stores. The Railroad Square district of Santa Rosa is the home to antique stores, art galleries, cafes and a wide variety of unique shops.

The Russian River and the City of Healdsburg are also just minutes away, and offer many one-of-a-kind, charming shopping opportunities. Galleries featuring local artists and sculptors, bakeries, housewares, gourmet foods and home furnishings are just some of the kinds of shopping that are available. Maps and directions to the local attractions are available at our front desk or from our concierge.
